Work smarter, not harder.

Summer is (almost!) here, and I’ve spent the last couple of weeks transitioning my closet for the new season. What started as a closet cleanout and reorganization mission evolved into a thoughtful evaluation of everything I own—and what holes needed to be filled. With limited storage space, it became clear that every piece I purchased needed to be multi-wear, functional, and a true ten-out-of-ten. Working in fashion, it can also be tempting to overconsume, so I’ve realigned my priorities to build a summer capsule wardrobe that brings intention to my wardrobe

After a huge purge, the coats and boots have made their way to the back of the closet, and I’ve built a 10-piece summer capsule wardrobe full of linen, wovens, and sandals that has taken center stage. I think I’ve finally cracked the code to effortlessly chic summer dressing. The secret? Less truly is more.

The Summer Capsule Wardrobe Checklist

Find out exactly what you need for your summer capsule wardrobe below, and allow your closet to work smarter, not harder in summer 2025.

  1. Simple Sundress
  2. Lightweight Top
  3. Breezy Bottom
  4. Non-Denim Shorts & Skirt
  5. Layering Tee & Tank
  6. White Denim
  7. Everyday Sunglasses
  8. Summery Sandals
  9. Seasonal Straw Bag
  10. Protective Sun Hat

Simple Sundress

For all of the minimalists out there, a solid sundress can be a summer capsule wardrobe in and of itself. A sundress is a one-and-done outfit, is easy to pack on vacation, and keeps you cool while looking effortless. This summer, I’m looking for midi-to-full length sundresses that I can pair with sandals, sneakers, or heels, depending on where I’m headed. I love styling summer sundresses with a statement belt and a thin knit draped over my shoulders to add a bit of depth to the look.

Lightweight Tops

I grew up in Texas, and one of the most difficult things about summer shopping is finding tops that are breathable enough to wear in peak heat. Even though I now live in Los Angeles, I still gravitate toward sleeveless vests, breezy button-downs, and girly blouses that don’t leave me in a puddle of sweat.

Brands like DÔEN, Reformation, and The Great have lots of lightweight and flowy tops that I love to style with denim, linen, and silk all summer long. My favorite top in my summer capsule wardrobe is my linen vest from DISSH, as it’s as cool as a tank top, but feels a little more styled and chic.

Breezy Bottoms

Although I still wear jeans all year round, I’ve been looking to expand my selection of pants with linen and silk pairs for summer. I’ve found that these airy alternatives are not only more comfortable and breathable but exude the laid-back energy that I’m trying to channel this year. (Plus, nothing is worse than a tight pair of jeans on a summer sunburn.) Investing in a trusty pair of white linen pants will be the best thing you can do for yourself this summer. This is the definition of working smarter, not harder—these pants will match every top in your closet.

Non-Denim Shorts & Skirts

While there is nothing wrong with denim shorts and skirts, I personally find them uncomfortable. I know that might be a hot take, but I don’t think I’ve worn my denim shorts in over a year. Instead, I gravitate toward flowy shorts and skirts that aren’t too short or too tight. I find that the more a-line shape a pair of shorts or a skirt has, the more flattering they are on the leg. This year, I’m filling this slot in my summer capsule wardrobe with longer, more tailored shorts and full-length linen skirts.

Layering Tees & Tanks

Every good summer capsule wardrobe starts with one-to-two layering bases. My requirements for layering tees and tanks are that they are long enough to tuck in, are not too tight around my arms, and are thick enough not to show my bra underneath. Once you find a good white or black tee/tank, the outfit possibilities are endless. If you’re looking for a foolproof summer outfit formula, pair one of these white tanks or tees with linen pants, a comfy sandal, a sweater draped over your shoulders, and a raffia bag. Sometimes, simpler is simply better.

White Denim

One of my favorite summer style trends is an all-white look. I’m a sucker for white jeans and a white top with a pop-of-color shoe and bag, so finding a reliable pair of white denim jeans is essential for my summer capsule wardrobe. You can’t go wrong with any cut of white denim, as this is a classic trend that will never go out of style. White denim overalls are also a great summer purchase to style over a white tee or a bikini at the beach. Bonus points for rewearing these pieces into fall and winter—we love a winter white!

Summery Sandals

Summer is the season of sandals, so say goodbye to your favorite boots and hello to biweekly pedicures! Whether you lean toward basic dad sandals or sexy strappy numbers, your choice in sandal should be neutral, comfortable, and durable. It’s easy to be woo-ed by trendy shoes, but a true summer capsule wardrobe sandal is timeless and versatile enough to pair with every item on this list. I look for sandals that are easy to slip on and off for beach days and grassy picnics, and lay flat in a suitcase for all of my summer adventures.

Seasonal Straw Bags

Perhaps my favorite part about summer rolling around is dusting off my woven raffia and straw bags to style all season long. Though this material will be forever reminiscent of my mom’s beach bag growing up, I love that designers have been using raffia in more modern, structured designs, giving the look a laid-back but still trendy feel. Plus, straw is a neutral, so it will match and add a seasonal flare to every outfit you create with this summer capsule wardrobe. From the farmer’s market to the beach and out to dinner, these bags can truly do (and hold) it all.

Protective Sun Hats

When I envision summer chicness, every look is topped off with the perfect floppy sun hat. There’s just something so opulent about a big hat and dark sunglasses that takes a basic summer outfit from simple to sexy. It’s also as functional as it is fashionable, protecting your skin during the sunny days ahead. I’m on the hunt for the perfect neutral raffia sun hat to wear at the beach with bikinis, on long walks in activewear, and everywhere in between. If a full-brim hat isn’t your style, a classic baseball hat adds a cool-girl touch to the summer capsule wardrobe while still covering your face, too.

Everyday Sunglasses

I like to think of sunglasses as the cherry on top of a summer capsule wardrobe: not entirely essential, but a small finishing touch that goes a long way. I went through a phase of purchasing multiple trendy, colorful sunglasses, but after having to pack four pairs of glasses for a three-day trip, I finally said enough is enough and found a well-fitting, neutral pair that goes with everything. Sunglasses also have a tendency to get left on the dinner table or swept into the ocean, so don’t feel like you have to spend a pretty penny on this element of your summer capsule wardrobe. A designer pair of sunglasses is always a fun splurge, but more affordable pairs earn just as many compliments minus the price tag.

My 3 words: refined, effortless, sporty.

I once listened to an interview with a fashion entrepreneur, in which she shared that her early closet was a chaotic mix of fast fashion and impulse buys—she even joked it looked like someone had “thrown up” in it. Everything changed when she asked, “Who do I want to show up as in the world?” That question shaped her timeless, sophisticated personal style.

I love this idea of curating our wardrobes with intention. Each year, I reflect on my goals—so why not do the same for my style? Embracing a capsule wardrobe feels like the perfect way to align my look with who I’m becoming. The right outfit can make me feel confident, calm, or bold, depending on the occasion. As the season shifts, I’m considering how my wardrobe evolves right along with me.

Create a Personal Style Vision Board

These are a few prompts that help guide my style evolution:

  • Which looks feel most like me right now?
  • What pieces do I reach for over and over?
  • How do I want to refine my wardrobe this year?

To answer these, I spent an evening curled up on the couch creating my style mood board for the year (pictured above.) I started by searching Pinterest for looks that resonated with me and pinned them to my 2025 Personal Style board. Then I organized my favorites in Canva to create a cohesive vision for the year. The goal? To uncover patterns and themes in what I’m gravitating towards. This year, that means a color palette anchored in camel, cream, navy, and black, plus boxy tees, oversized button-downs, tailored trousers, and classic sweaters.

After curating my visual inspiration, I identify a few words that capture the essence of my style. These act as my north star when I’m building outfits. For 2025, my words are: refined, effortless, sporty. Every time I consider a new purchase, I’ll hold it up against these words to stay true to my vision (and avoid impulse buys that don’t align).

Shop Your Closet First

The next step? Shopping my own closet. I believe in slowly building a wardrobe over time that can evolve along with me, rather than starting from scratch each season. By identifying what I already own that reflects my vision, I can bring my mood board to life without feeling the need to constantly buy more. And when I do add something new, it’s with purpose.

My 35 Wardrobe Essentials

To illustrate the process (and provide some inspo if you’re into my style direction), here are the essential items I build my wardrobe around. Think of it as a capsule wardrobe of timeless, versatile staples—pieces that feel most me and save me from those “I have nothing to wear” moments.

Keep reading for:

  • A button-down I own in multiple colors
  • The most flattering jeans on the planet
  • My desert-island sneakers
  • My first-ever “investment piece” that I still love
  • What I wear to work out in almost daily
camille styles' pants_capsule wardrobe 2025

PANTS

  • Madewell Superwide-Leg Jeans: These were the jeans that converted me to wide-legs. They’re super comfy but also really long, so I can wear them out to dinner with a stacked boot and blazer.
  • RE/DONE 90s High Rise Loose Jeans: Vintage-inspired with a modern fit, these jeans are effortlessly cool and endlessly versatile. I wear them most often with a sneaker and sweatshirt.
  • Khaite Danielle Jean: As discussed here, these are an investment piece and by far the most expensive jeans I’ve ever purchased. That said, the incredibly flattering high-rise and structured denim make these luxurious enough to be worth it.
  • Aritzia The Effortless Pant: I have these in three colors, and they’ve become what I reach for when I need to look put together with minimal effort.
  • Spanx Ponte Flare Pant: I bought these very randomly and they ended up being the most flattering pants I own. They’re really supportive and make your legs look a mile long, which is why they’ve become my go-to date night look.

SHORT-SLEEVE TOPS

sweaters and long sleeve tops_capsule wardrobe 2025

LONG-SLEEVE TOPS

  • Sezane Max Shirt: This is my official uniform. The crisp white button-down was my gateway drug that soon led to the blue ecru striped… and then the denim. Which do I need next?
  • Haven Well Within Shaker Stitch Cardigan: Cozy, textured, and made for weekend lounging or WFH days.
  • Sezane Trudy Jumper: I love a striped sweater, and this is a classic version with total French girl vibes.

OUTERWEAR

Cuyana Wool Cashmere Sweater Coat: A wool coat is the best investment piece, and this one is luxuriously soft for a sophisticated layer. I just took it to Paris and it worked for every occasion.

Sezane Christie Jacket: A structured, soft blazer that instantly elevates a white t-shirt. I ordered a size up for a boxy oversized fit.

Aritzia The Super Puff Shorty: If you’re thinking of splurging on a Canada Goose puffer, stop and get this $235 version instead. Everything from the length to the material is absolute perfection.

Sezane Scott Trench Coat: I’ve worn this timeless trench for years—it’s the quickest way to pull together any outfit, from dresses to sweats.

ACTIVEWEAR

  • Alo 7/8 High-Waist Airlift Legging: Sculpting and so supportive, these leggings move seamlessly from workout to errands.
  • Form Scoop Bra: This is my go-to sports bra with the perfect mix of support and comfort. I have it in 3 colors and wear it daily for morning workouts. I love Form’s leggings, too.
  • Varley Catherine Half-Zip: I always go for the preppy vibes of a half-zip pullover, and this one is butter-soft and the perfect length.
  • Daily Drills Unisex Oversized Crew: The coziest sweats hands-down; this is my uniform for lounging and weekend errands. There’s something about the cut and material that never looks sloppy, despite the oversized fit.

SHOES

  • Common Projects Original Achilles Low Sneaker: I love these sneakers so much, I’m on my third pair (and they were the #1 shopped item from this newsletter last year!). They’re the perfect minimalist sneaker that makes any outfit look sporty-chic.
  • Adidas OG Sambas: I wore these all over Paris last month, and the black stripe added just the right amount of vintage sport to every outfit. Most importantly, they’re insanely comfortable.
  • Madewell The Ardin Ankle Boot: These are sleek, with a not-too-high heel so I can actually walk around them all day pain-free.
  • Sezane Fausta Clogs: I’m not really a heels girl, so when the occasion calls for it, this platform clog feels elevated without trying too hard.
  • New Balance 327 Sneakers: My go-to workout sneaker, these are basically perfect. I love the platform sole that adds support and makes my legs look a few inches longer.

ACCESSORIES

  • Los Angeles Baseball Cap: This cap is the perfect shape for my head, and I throw it on whenever I need to get out the door fast. I love the sporty touch it adds to a white button-down and jeans.
  • Celine Cat Eye Sunglasses: When it comes to splurges I’m all about cost-per-wear, and what gets more wear than our sunglasses? These are the class, oversized shape I love.
  • Quince Barcelona Sunglasses: That said, if you tend to lose your sunnies as frequently as I do, these are an amazingly affordable alternative that looks and feels luxurious.
  • Sezane Romie Hoops: These sculptural hoops add a minimalist touch to both casual and elevated outfits. I wear mine literally every day.
  • Sezane Taylor Belt: I have this truly classic, high-quality belt in both black and brown. It’s an easy way to add structure and polish to jeans, trousers, and even linen shorts.

BAGS

  • Celine Luggage Tote: This was my first (and one of my only) true investment pieces, and it’s probably my most treasured wardrobe possession. I love it as much now as I did when I got it a decade ago—it’s truly stood the test of time! I’m linking to some well-priced used Celines which is both smart and sustainable.
  • Sezane Farrow Raphia Bucket Bag: Every wardrobe needs a classic “basket” bag for warm-weather months. I have a few because I’m obsessed, but this is my favorite.
  • Clare V Midi Sac: This chic crossbody is compact and incredibly versatile. It’s surprising how much it holds considering its size. I have it in both tan and forest green, and wear it constantly.

From casual to cocktail.

The post The Guide to the Best LBD for Every Occasion  appeared first on Camille Styles.

There’s a reason the little black dress has remained a wardrobe essential for decades—sometimes, the simplest answer is the best. The best LBD’s are more than just an outfit; they’re a confidence boost in fabric form, making you feel effortlessly chic, subtly sexy, and undeniably elegant all at once. A great LBD doesn’t compete for attention—it enhances your natural beauty, providing the perfect backdrop for statement accessories or a bold makeup look. Plus, black is universally flattering, creating a sleek, streamlined silhouette that never goes out of style.

Whether you’re dressing for a night out, a big meeting, or a casual weekend, the best little black dresses ensure you always have something timeless to wear. I’ve rounded up my top picks for every occasion below, so finding your a new favorite outfit is easier than ever.

best-little-black-dresses

Day-to-Day

For those busy days of errands, coffee runs, or casual lunches, the best little black dresses are the ones that keep up with you. Comfort is key—look for a relaxed fit that’s not too short, too tight, or too high-maintenance. A breezy cotton or linen option will keep you feeling effortless from morning to evening. Style it with your choice sneakers or sandals, because it goes with everything, and top it off with your go-to sunglasses and everyday bag.

Polished & Professional

As someone who is not a morning person, I can confidently say that my styling brain power before 9 a.m. is minimal at best. When I’m getting dressed for work, I need something that looks put-together without requiring actual thought—which is exactly why a polished little black dress is my go-to. It’s the ultimate no-brainer outfit: effortlessly sophisticated, always flattering, and impossible to mess up. Whether I’m running late to a meeting or just trying to survive the day on caffeine alone, I know I can throw it on with slingbacks or classic loafers and instantly feel polished—no overthinking required.

Sweater Weather

In my opinion, the best little black dresses are knit—because what’s better than looking chic and feeling cozy at the same time? A great knit dress is one of those rare pieces that works year-round, depending on the weight of the fabric. I recently picked up a black knit dress from Dissh, and it’s quickly become my go-to. I wore it during the day with slides and the matching tie belt, then swapped in a gold hardware belt and heeled boots for dinner. It’s the kind of effortless staple that makes getting dressed so much easier—whether I’m running errands, meeting friends for lunch, or dressing it up for a night out.

Night Out

When the dress code calls for something sexy but understated, the best little black dresses are always the way to go. For me, my go-to LBD isn’t actually a dress at all—it’s an oversized blazer, belted and cinched at the waist. It’s the perfect mix of structured and sexy, giving that quiet luxury vibe without trying too hard. If I do go the classic little black dress route, I keep it sleek and understated, pairing it with pointed-toe boots or minimalist slingbacks. Either way, a black-on-black outfit is always my easy route to looking effortlessly pulled together.

Best-Dressed Guest

We’ve all been there—standing in front of our closet, trying on what feels like a hundred outfits, only to end up feeling like none of them are quite right. It’s that moment when you’re staring at your clothes, overwhelmed, and finally, you just reach for your trusty little black dress. It’s always there for you, no questions asked, and somehow, it always works. I love having an evening LBD on hand for exactly these moments, whether it’s for a last-minute invite or an event where nothing else seems to fit the occasion. The best part? You can switch up your accessories—shoes, bags, earrings—and instantly transform the look. A great LBD is an investment that ensures you’ll always feel confident, and with it in your wardrobe, you’ll never have to stress about what to wear again.

Camille Styles cozy winter basics

Between the winter social events, weekend plans, and all the activities that fill our calendars during the coldest months, our plates are full. And while managing a packed schedule can feel overwhelming, I’m excited about having reasons to get dressed up. Thankfully, with a solid capsule wardrobe of heavy-hitting winter basics, your cold-weather mood board is well within reach.

winter basics outfits

The Best Cozy and Elegant Winter Basics

Our winter basics are those you continue to go back to on a seasonal basis. And sure, in a world of “core” after “core” trend, the idea of finding a timeless piece can feel like a needle-in-a-haystack situation. But don’t worry, no matter the occasion you’re dressing for, these winter basics have you covered.

Weekend Brunch and City Exploring

Every winter weekend deserves at least one day dedicated to catching up with friends over a latte and wandering through your favorite shops. For such occasions, the focus is on comfort while still incorporating pieces that guarantee compliments. A tailored blazer, cozy but flattering pant, and statement accessories complete the formula. It’s easygoing while still garnering a solid spot on your feed.

The Blazer

The trick to selecting a timeless blazer that’ll take you from weekend brunch to evening events is opting for one with structure that still moves with your body. Look for a style with enough give to layer sweaters underneath, but with enough tailoring to elevate even your most casual looks.

The Tailored Pant

A great tailored pant is the ultimate secret weapon in your winter wardrobe—structured enough to look polished, but with enough stretch to keep you comfortable through hours of browsing. The key is finding a high-rise style with a slim or straight leg that skims (not clings to) your curves, ideally in a ponte or wool-blend fabric that holds its shape while feeling as forgiving as your favorite yoga pants.

The Understated Statement Necklace

Forget clunky statement pieces that overwhelm your look. The secret to winter accessorizing is finding a necklace that makes its presence known without stealing the entire show. The ideal piece offers just a hint of sparkle or architectural interest, working as beautifully with a basic tee and blazer as it does with an elevated evening look.

The Statement Bag

‘Tis the season for structured, top-handled bags. Look for one that makes space for the essentials while adding that perfect pop of visual interest to your winter looks. Find a bag with clean lines and interesting details (think: unique hardware or an unexpected texture) that can anchor everything from your casual coffee run outfit to your evening-out ensemble.

The Casual Dinner Party

Dinner parties call for an elevated, comfy look. You want to look put together but also comfortable enough to help in the kitchen, curl up on the couch for after-dinner conversations, and move freely as you mingle with other guests.

The Chunky Sweater

If you want the perfect chunky sweater that walks the line between polished and cozy, look for one with interesting texture or knit patterns that elevates it beyond basic loungewear. The winning formula is an oversized (but not overwhelming) fit in a neutral shade that you can french-tuck into high-waisted pants, creating that effortlessly chic silhouette that works perfectly for intimate dinner gatherings.

The Perfect Jeans

A great pair of jeans is the foundation of your casual dinner party look. Opt for a straight-leg or relaxed fit in a dark wash or black denim to strike the perfect balance between dressed-up and laid-back. Look for a high-rise style with just enough stretch to keep you comfy.

The Cozy Slide

For a dinner party at home, the right footwear is essential. Cozy slides are the perfect choice—they’re easy to slip on and off, polished enough to complement your outfit, and endlessly comfortable. Look for slides in luxe materials like suede or shearling with a supportive sole that keeps you light on your feet.

Cozy Night In

Whether you’re hosting a casual wine and cheese night, settling in for a movie marathon, or treating yourself to a proper self-care evening, your outfit should strike that perfect balance between put-together and supremely comfortable. Choose pieces that make you feel elegant even as you sink into your favorite corner of the couch.

The Cardigan

A cardigan is the ultimate layering piece for a cozy night in—soft, warm, and effortlessly chic. Look for one with an open-front design and a slightly oversized fit.

The Silk Skirt

A silk skirt brings a touch of luxury to your cozy night in, striking that elusive balance between loungewear and elegance. Find one with a bias cut that skims your body for a flattering fit without feeling restrictive. Pair it with your cozy sweater and a sleek bodysuit to keep your outfit effortless yet refined. It’s all about ease while still looking polished enough to feel special.

The Hair Bow

The hair bow is the perfect finishing touch, adding a hint of whimsy and elegance. Opt for one in a luxe fabric like velvet or silk, and choose a size that complements your hairstyle—larger for a statement look, smaller for a delicate accent. Whether you tie it around a loose ponytail, clip it into a soft bun, or use it as a headband, a hair bow elevates even the simplest outfits. Stick to classic shades like black, navy, or blush for a timeless vibe that feels effortlessly chic.

Winter Evening Events

When it comes to winter events, whether it’s a gallery opening, a wine tasting, or a special dinner out, a few materials and textures will instantly elevate your look. I love the impact of velvet-everything. It goes beyond monochromatic and creates an instant, luxurious appeal.

Velvet Everything

Velvet is the quintessential winter fabric, effortlessly combining luxury and warmth. For evening events, embrace head-to-toe velvet or mix and match pieces for a statement look. A velvet blazer can be paired with tailored trousers or layered over a slip dress for an elegant twist. Velvet pants are both sophisticated and comfortable, offering an elevated alternative to jeans or standard trousers. And of course, a velvet dress is a showstopper on its own—look for rich jewel tones or classic black to capture the season’s glamour. The key to pulling off velvet-everything? Balance with sleek accessories and subtle textures to let the fabric shine.

A Fur Topper

This is the ultimate way to add drama and warmth to your winter evening look. Whether you opt for faux or vintage fur, the key is choosing a piece that feels both glamorous and versatile. A cropped fur jacket or cape pairs perfectly with a sleek dress or tailored velvet pants, while a full-length coat makes a bold statement. Stick to neutral tones like cream, black, or camel for timeless appeal, or go bold with a rich jewel tone for extra impact.

Metallic Accessories

Metallic accessories are the easiest way to add a touch of glamour to any winter evening look. These pieces catch the light beautifully, creating a festive vibe without feeling overdone. Opt for balance—pair metallics with rich textures like velvet, silk, or fur to keep the look elevated. Whether you prefer bold gold or sleek silver, metallic accessories are the perfect finishing touch for a chic winter ensemble.

Winter Weekend Mornings

For me, winter mornings are all about embracing the season’s invitation to slow down. I’m talking soft loungewear, warm layers, and elevated basics that transition seamlessly from your morning coffee to an afternoon of errands. Whether you’re heading to a yoga class or meeting friends at your favorite café, these pieces will keep you both stylish and comfortable.

Live-In Activewear

Activewear is the ultimate winter weekend uniform—functional, cozy, and effortlessly stylish. Look for high-waisted leggings in luxe fabrics that offer warmth and stretch, paired with a cropped hoodie or oversized crewneck for a balanced silhouette. Neutral tones and muted hues keep the look polished, while textured details like ribbing or quilting add visual interest.

Cute and Comfy Socks

Nothing completes a cozy winter morning outfit quite like a pair of cute, comfy socks. Opt for chunky knit or cashmere-blend styles to keep your feet warm and stylish, whether you’re lounging at home or slipping them into your favorite boots. They’re the perfect finishing touch that makes even the simplest outfit feel thoughtfully put together.

The holiday season—though packed with so much activity—invites us to slow down, savor cozy moments, and cherish being close to those we love. Whether it’s the quiet of an early morning or a cozy evening in, these gatherings bring us closer to ourselves and each other. This year, my holiday capsule wardrobe reflects that spirit—effortless, comfortable, and thoughtfully curated. Haven Well Within is my go-to for elevated essentials, and this season, their pieces help me strike just the right balance of chic and comfortable.

My Off-Duty Holiday Capsule Wardrobe: 6 Essential Looks

From wrapping gifts by the fire in a classic cable knit to exploring holiday markets in cozy leggings and an oversized sweater, these looks feel festive without trying too hard. Every piece is designed to keep things simple and elevated, perfect for sinking into the season’s restful pace.

With refined loungewear for movie marathons and laid-back hosting, these versatile pieces make even the simplest holiday moments feel intentional. Embracing cozy doesn’t mean sacrificing style—it’s about finding a balance that lets you fully enjoy the season.

Baking Christmas Cookies

For baking Christmas cookies with my kids, I love slipping into this ultra-cozy cashmere sweater and matching wide-leg pants. The cable knit adds just the right touch of texture, while the soft, relaxed fit makes it feel like a warm hug—perfect for spending the afternoon frosting cookies and laughing over our (inevitable) decorating mishaps. It’s an ideal combination of cozy and elevated, and it makes holiday moments like this feel extra special.

These pieces create a chic yet laid-back outfit that I can wear all day long (when I’m winding down with some hot cocoa by the fire). It’s exactly the kind of look I want to wear this season—festive and full of warmth.

Gift Wrapping Marathon

When I’m in full gift-wrapping mode, I want to feel cozy and put-together—making this sweater tee and matching wide-leg pants my go-to. The soft material is soft against my skin, perfect for hours of wrapping, folding, and tying ribbons, while the relaxed fit gives me room to move around without feeling restricted. I love how the porcini color feels both neutral and fresh, and the wide-leg silhouette adds a simple touch of chic.

To top off the look, I slip into these faux-fur banded slippers for ultimate comfort. They’re ridiculously cozy and make every step feel luxurious, even as I’m knee-deep in the holiday hustle. It’s a combination that makes even the simplest tasks feel like a treat—and I’m all about making the little moments spark joy this season.

Fireside Reading Afternoon

On a quiet afternoon by the fire, this cashmere sweater is my perfect companion. It’s effortlessly chic, cozy, and perfect for curling up with a good book. The soft fabric feels like a gentle embrace, making it the kind of piece I never want to take off.

I pair it with these beyond-comfy leggings for a laid-back yet polished look. They offer just the right amount of stretch, perfect for an afternoon of relaxation. My cozy sherpa slippers complete the outfit, keeping my feet warm while I curl up with a cup of tea. Simple, cozy, and so inviting—this is my ideal fireside uniform.

Tree-Trimming at Home

Tree trimming is one of my favorite holiday traditions, and this outfit is perfect for getting into the spirit. I love this sweater’s cozy feel in a warm porcini and ivory combo—it’s soft and substantial, just the right balance of snug and breathable. Paired with these wide-leg pants, the look is casual but elegant. It’s perfect for moving around the house as I hang wreathes and wrap lights on the tree.

To complete the look, I add this cashmere beanie. The classic design makes it a go-to for when I need an added layer of warmth. This combination makes it easy to stay cozy while still looking put together for one of the season’s most festive activities.

Neighborhood Lights Tour

A neighborhood lights tour is always a magical way to celebrate the holiday spirit. Living in Austin, where the weather is milder, I love how this sweater tee feels cozy without being too hot. Paired with leggings, it’s comfortable and streamlined enough for a relaxed evening of taking in the twinkling lights.

For those in colder climates, I’d recommend layering a heavier coat on top—this cinch-waist coat is my pick for staying warm while still looking chic. Altogether, this look strikes the perfect balance of effortless comfort and holiday cheer.

More Holiday Essentials I Love

As the season calls for indulgence and relaxation, there are a few more essentials I always keep close by in my holiday capsule wardrobe. The first is this curly sherpa bucket tote—its soft texture and spacious design make it the perfect carry-all for my holiday outings, from last-minute gift runs to cozy coffee dates. Plus, the neutral oat color complements every outfit, adding a touch of warmth and texture.

When it’s time to wind down, this organic cotton plaid pajama set is my pick for a cozy night in. The relaxed fit and soft fabric make it feel like a luxurious treat, whether I’m curled up by the fire or catching up on holiday movies. And to complete the festive self-care routine, I always keep a Vertly peppermint stick lip balm on hand. Its refreshing scent and nourishing formula make it a sweet little indulgence to keep my skin feeling fresh and hydrated during the colder months. Together, these pieces elevate my downtime and add that extra layer of holiday comfort.

I was recently on a call with our Design Editor, Kristen, who claimed she was entering her “fancy girl era.” Immediately, I wanted to adopt the same mantra—and it’s clear I’m not alone. The pandemic’s resurgence of sweatpants and aughts-centric trends has made way for a new push toward quiet luxury. We want more from our clothes, and as a result, prioritize and invest in pieces that will look good for years to come. Luckily, the best fall basics achieve exactly that, letting you curate an autumn wardrobe you’ll love wearing from now until spring.

I’ve experienced quite the glow-up over the years. And while some of that is the result of a bit more disposable income since graduating college, I’d attribute it mostly to intention. Nowadays, I’m choosing to keep my closet edited down to pieces that align with the three words that describe my personal style: elegant, feminine, and understated. By refining my style goals to what makes me feel most myself, it’s easier to say no to what doesn’t fit.

How to Curate Your Personal Style

My Pinterest style board has become my go-to source of inspiration for these sartorial shifts. I’ve made it a monthly ritual to sift through and delete images that no longer spark joy, while eagerly importing fresh looks from my Instagram saves.

This consistent practice has not only helped me define and evolve my personal aesthetic but has also streamlined my shopping list. The process is simple: gather your favorite inspiration images, crank up a fun playlist, and see how many looks you can recreate with your current fall wardrobe. Trust me, that’s where the best fall basics shine!

The Best Fall Basics to Wear This Season

Go through this process once, and you’ll quickly realize that you need to track down the perfect sweater, jacket, or pair of boots to take your wardrobe to the next level. With this method, I’ve transformed my closet from an uninspired collage of trends to a collection full of the best fall basics and neutral colors that I can endlessly mix and match.

But know this: The perfect closet doesn’t have to be a rigid capsule wardrobe. However, it does have to withstand trends and reflect who you are. With that in mind, keep scrolling for the best fall basics and autumn essentials.

Outerwear

Outerwear can always be a bit tricky during this transitional season. Some days, you might wake up needing your heaviest coat, while on others, you can get by without this outfit topper. I love this year’s obsession with the barn jacket—it’s a classic piece that’s perfect for these not-too-hot, not-too-cold months. In a neutral color, it will layer just as easily over a t-shirt and jeans as on any other fall outfit. Pretend you’re in the British countryside and your wardrobe will take care of the rest.

Of course, every timeless wardrobe also needs a good leather jacket. And while many real-deal picks will set you back hundreds in price, affordable options abound that look even better. Whatever your outerwear selection, consider these pieces your ticket to cool girl fall.

Dresses

Nap dresses are forever, but we love the simple, streamlined ease of a slip dress. To wear mine throughout the year, I simply employ different styling tactics that keep me warm and seasonally appropriate. In the summer, I’ll pair mine with sandals, and in the fall, I like to layer up with tights, a cozy sweater, lug sole boots, and a scarf to top things off. And in this season’s trending chocolate brown? Chef’s (stylist’s) kiss.

A-line dresses are also perfect for fall—reflecting the timeless tailoring and universally flattering shape so many of us are loving right now. Perfect for work, lunch, or a wine night by the fire, these pieces will easily become your go-to. A-line cuts are the ideal mix of flattering and fitted while also being unbelievably comfy. Throw on a pair of statement earrings and you’re all set—this is a one-and-done sort of outfit.

Lastly, every fall’s pièce de résistance: the sweater dress. She’s comfy, she’s flattering and forgiving, and she keeps you warm without looking like you put on every last layer in your closet. Not only do sweater dresses automatically make you look put together, but they take all the effort out of planning an outfit. I love mixing mine with knee-high heeled boots for a casual, yet chic seasonal look.

Tops

Tops can be tricky during a season when we’re all gravitating toward sweaters. But! They also make my favorite fall pastime (layering) so seamless and chic. I love a denim button-down that serves as the topper to the foolproof Canadian tuxedo outfit formula. Or, try one in a fall-appropriate plaid and a fun flourish of detail to add visual interest.

I’m also enjoying asymmetrical tops that flatter every body thanks to the diagonal lines that draw the eye in a way that creates a more streamlined silhouette. Go even bolder with a one-shoulder top—they’re perfect for a date night or dinner out.

Sweaters

When the temperatures begin to dip, I start to crave chunky woven knits. But even during the coziest season of the year, I like to keep my looks streamlined. Cardigans, crewnecks, and my favorite—turtlenecks—are in abundance this time of year. Thankfully, plenty of brands offer styles at a range of prices, putting even the most luxe sweaters in reach. The options I’ve shared below each boast five-star reviews and won’t pill (just be mindful to follow the care instructions to a tee).

I envision cozying up in these sweaters with a full monochromatic look, head to toe. This styling trick makes for a relaxed outfit while still feeling chic, and can look cozy, classy, or sexy depending on how you style it. (Bonus: You’ll reach for it whenever you need an extra layer of comfort when working from home.)

Bottoms

Especially this year, with barrel-leg pants and denim making waves, it’s obvious that trends come and go. However, one shape that lives in my closet forever is a high-waisted, wide-leg pant. I find they’re flattering even on my petite frame (re: they don’t overwhelm me) and pair beautifully with any sweater or top—though I like to go a bit more fitted for visual balance. Depending on the material, they always look chic and are easy to dress up for a night out or a casual look with sneakers and a tee. Trust me: select one of the pairs below and you’re guaranteed to always get compliments.

Shoes

I only buy shoes about once every other season, so I want to know I’m making the right investment. I recently purchased Madewell’s Greta Ballet Flat in red and am obsessed with how the shoe adds a vibrant pop of color to my oftentimes more subdued fall outfits. Similarly, my knee-high boots are a go-to pick with just about everything I’m wearing this time of year. They look perfectly mod paired with a shorter plaid skirt and sweater or cottagecore-chic with my longer, prairie-esque dresses.

Across any shoe style, keeping things classic in the fall will guide you toward a pair that will last you forever. With timelessness as your intention, you’ll be led to shoes that pair beautifully with just about any style or aesthetic.

Accessories

Accessories are so fun in the fall, with the chillier weather letting you pile on scarves and hats with reckless, sartorial abandon. Suede is this season’s hottest material, and I love how it can pop up in a bag, belt, or any detail to let your outfit shine. But if you buy one accessory this season, make it a classic pair of hoops. I’m still loving the silver trend, and everything from Heaven Mayhem will be an instant heirloom. They’ll elevate any outfit you wear this season.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I am SO ready for fall. Though I consider myself a summer girl through and through, I’m suddenly craving the cozy comfort of my fall routine. My closet, on the other hand, could use some convincing. Not only do sweaters and coats feel less sexy than sundresses and sandals, they also demand quite a bit more real estate in my tiny closet. Enter: Your fall capsule wardrobe for 2024.

By carefully curating a collection of versatile, high-quality pieces that mix and match effortlessly, a fall capsule wardrobe keeps things remarkably simple. It allows you to maximize your style options while minimizing closet clutter, ensuring that every item earns its place. From our favorite chunky sweaters to the It bags of the season, we’ll show you how to create a wardrobe that’s as adaptable as it is trendy.

Fall capsule wardrobe 2024 inspiration.

The Art of Transitional Dressing

As summer fades into fall, mastering the art of transitional dressing becomes key. Before packing your summer capsule wardrobe, consider how many pieces can serve double duty with the right styling. Those breezy button-downs and layering tees you’ve been wearing all summer? Try pairing them with cozy cardigans and dark-wash denim for a more seasonal fall look.

Ready to dip your toes into fall fashion? Try these versatile styling tips:

  • Layer lightweight knits over summer dresses
  • Pair knee-high boots with flowy skirts and shorts
  • Throw a trench coat or blazer over sleeveless tops
  • Swap sandals for loafers or mules
  • Gradually introduce richer textures like suede and corduroy

The best part is that transitioning your closet for winter will be even simpler with fall capsule wardrobe pieces that incorporate both timeless elements and up-to-date trends.

Our Fall 2024 Capsule Wardrobe

This fall capsule wardrobe is all about investing in good basics, and then adding in flares of your own personal style through clever layering and strategic fabric pairings. Here’s all you need to get started:

  1. Straight-Leg Denim
  2. Leather Boots
  3. Lightweight Layer
  4. Suede Bag
  5. Statement Belt
  6. Basic Blazer
  7. Tailored Trouser
  8. Must-Have Sweater
  9. Everyday Loafers
  10. Knit Dress

Straight-Leg Denim

I’m currently working on a deep dive into all things fall denim, but a good pair of straight-leg jeans is the number one piece you need in your fall capsule wardrobe. Shopping for denim is a super personal experience, but I recommend finding straight-leg jeans that are slim enough to be paired with chunky knits and large jackets, but still loose enough to fit boots underneath.

Leather Boots

Whether you lean on a pointed-toe heeled bootie or a chunky-sole Chelsea boot, everyone needs a good pair of leather boots for fall. While you can make do with one pair, if your closet allows, I’d opt for one heeled ankle boot and one flat, to-the-knee boot for super versatile wear. And trust me, all of the boots below were actually made for walking—because who has time for blisters this season?

Lightweight Layer

From suede to khaki to quilted, a lightweight jacket is integral to your fall capsule wardrobe. Your fall jacket should be light enough when worn alone while we wait for temps to drop, but warm enough when layered with a sweater as we head into winter. Have fun with the style here, but trench coats, barn jackets, and vintage-inspired suede coats are great neutral, but still trendy options to invest in.

Suede Bag

Suede is my favorite fall fabric, and a suede purse is the perfect way to incorporate it into my fall capsule wardrobe. Though I drool every time I see a pair of suede shoes, a suede bag feels easier to protect from the unpredictable fall weather. You can’t go wrong with any of these options to round out your fall capsule wardrobe for 2024.

Statement Belt

Now that you have the perfect pair of jeans, it’s time to accessorize with a fun, but still timeless, statement belt. This fall, it’s all about effortless tailoring, and what better way to accentuate your waist than with one of these belts? Watch your favorite denim and white tee pairing take on a new life with this simple styling hack.

Basic Blazer

Although a basic blazer is a staple for me year-round, I consistently gravitate toward blazers every fall. I hate covering up a fabulous outfit with a not-so-fabulous coat, and a good blazer is my favorite way to stay warm while still staying styled. In fall 2024, we’ll see a shift away from oversized blazers in favor of a more tailored look, but I’ll still be wearing all of the above (and below).

Tailored Trouser

As denim shorts are to summer, tailored trousers are to fall. A well-fitting pair of black trousers can be paired with a white t-shirt and sneakers, a sweater and loafers, a blouse and heeled booties, and look effortlessly chic all three ways. Trousers are a bit like denim shorts in that you might have to try before you buy, but once you find a pair that suits you, the fall styling possibilities are endless.

Must-Have Sweater

It’s officially sweater weather, and selecting one to two versatile knits is key elements in your fall capsule wardrobe. The ideal sweater is triple duty: it stands alone as a stylish top, layers effortlessly over button-downs, and fits comfortably under lightweight jackets. When choosing your fall sweaters, pay close attention to the thickness—while a chunky knit is a fun, trendy statement to have in your wardrobe, it can’t be layered as easily as a thinner option. Pro tip: Always check the fabric content when shopping online to gauge itchiness. A wool blend is typically less itchy than 100% wool, and cashmere or cotton sweaters are almost always a safe bet.

Everyday Loafers

While I tend to live in sneakers, I look to loafers for a more elevated look. This fall, a more slim, fitted loafer is gaining popularity, with bonus points for suede options. Loafers tend to get a bad rap in terms of comfort, but I’ve found that once you find the right pair, comfort isn’t even a question. However, I do love styling my loafers with a cute ankle sock to aid in the blister department. And honestly, they’re the perfect finishing touch for any fall outfit.

Knit Dress

Sometimes, you just need a one-and-done outfit, and a knit dress is the easiest wardrobe hack for fall. Accessorize it with a studded belt and a good pair of boots, and voila! You’re ready for the office, brunch, holiday parties, etc.

If you ask me, the best part of the turning seasons is the chance to transition my closet. As much as I love summer, come August, I can’t help but get excited about all things fall. The temps finally cool, the leaves start to turn, fall produce fills the grocery stores, and my favorite jackets and jeans make their reappearance into my wardrobe. Denim shorts are great and all, but every year I look forward to adding a few new fall wardrobe essentials to my repertoire, without breaking the bank.

20 Fall Wardrobe Essentials Under $200

There’s something so exciting to me about fall fashion. It’s a season that invites creativity, layering, and a touch of coziness. The right fall wardrobe essentials work overtime, creating countless outfit combinations that keep you looking fresh throughout the season. From the perfect chunky knit to a comfy pair of boots, I’m sharing every seasonal item I have my eye on this year. So, grab your pumpkin spice latte, and get ready to fill your cart with fall wardrobe essentials—all for under $200.

Agolde Cherie High Rise Straight Jeans

The number one thing your fall wardrobe needs is a good pair of straight-legged jeans. While I still love baggy denim, I tend to opt for a more fitted pair in the fall to balance out chunky sweaters and jackets. I love the Cherie jeans from Agolde, as they are the perfect straight-fit that can still be worn with booties and sneakers alike.

Madewell Suede Essentials Slouch Hobo Bag

It’s officially suede season, and this suede hobo bag from Madewell is an affordable option for fall. I love the look of suede, but due to the material’s fragile nature, I am always a bit hesitant to spend a large amount of money on it. I appreciate that this bag is still super high quality, but it’s also durable enough to take everywhere. Big enough to hold everything you might need on a fall day—including extra layers—this bag is a must.

J.Crew Winona Penny Loafers in Spazzolato Leather

While chunky loafers were all the rage last fall, I predict that a more sleek and slim look will be popular for fall 2024. Ballet flats’ more mature older sister, a loafer is one of my favorite shoes to style alone with denim or with socks and shorts. This pair from J.Crew is at the top of my fall wardrobe essentials wishlist.

Dissh Elle Dark Chocolate Blazer

If you know me, you know that an oversized blazer is my go-to outfit any time of the year—especially during the fall. I’ll throw on an oversized blazer with jeans and loafers for work or with shorts and knee-high boots for going out and always feel my cutest. Chocolate brown is my favorite fall hue and I can’t wait to get my hands on this blazer from Dissh.

Everlane The Barn Jacket

Barn jackets are one of the top trends emerging for fall 2024, and this jacket from Everlane is everything. Similar to the viral Dôen jacket that sold out almost immediately, this lightweight, khaki-colored jacket is the ultimate fashion-forward fall layer. Before the temps get too cold, I would style this with boxer shorts, a white tee, and socks with loafers.

Sézane Lucas Jumper

Stripes are going to be everywhere this fall, and this Sézane sweater is the perfect timeless but trendy piece to add to your fall wardrobe. The neckline, buttons, and rib knit are to die for, and I love that the white and navy stripes will go with everything while still being a statement. You can truly never have too many chunky knits in your closet, and this is a fun one to add to the rotation.

Mango Double-Button Trench Coat

While temps cool in the fall, in many parts of the country, it’s still not cold enough for a full-blown coat. Enter: the trench coat. Thin enough to layer and warm enough not to freeze, a trench coat truly is fall’s perfect jacket. If the full-length look isn’t for you, there are plenty of cropped versions that still do the trick.

Reformation Delanie Top

This houndstooth vest is the fall version of my favorite linen vests. There’s something about a structured vest that looks so elevated and sharp, even though it’s essentially just a tank. I’d pair this vest with dark denim and layer it with an oversized blazer if it’s chilly.

Steve Madden Delvie Brown/Red Leather Boots

Pointed-toe boots might be my favorite trend that came out of last fall. Lucky for all of us, they aren’t going anywhere this year. I love the way the pointed toe elongates the legs, feeling super feminine and sexy. These booties from Steve Madden are a deep merlot (which I think will be one of the colors of the season) and the perfect height to wear under jeans.

Sézane Sofie Dress

I’m a firm believer that denim is the fabric of fall, and this denim dress is most definitely a fall wardrobe essential. Styled with sneakers, loafers, boots or heels, this is a dress that can do it all. I’m excited to get creative with belts this fall and think this dress would look amazing belted at the waist with a pair of to-the-knee boots.

Petite Moments Phoenix Belt With Disc Studs

As I said, I’m excited to get creative with styling with belts this fall, and this Khaite look-a-like is at the top of my list. Worn simply with jeans, at the waist over a dress, and even over a blazer, the addition of a belt can transform an outfit. I love the dark brown and gold combo, but it also comes in black and silver if that better suits your style and vibe.

Levi’s Vintage Overalls

White denim overalls were on my summer wardrobe essentials list, so naturally, these vintage-inspired Levi’s had to make my fall wardrobe faves as well. Layered over the perfect white tee with a cardigan over your shoulders, these overalls make for an effortless, yet styled fall fit.

Banana Republic The 90s Denim Trucker Jacket

One of the most basic, but hardest to get right, fall wardrobe essentials is a denim jacket. I’m sure almost all of us have one in our closets, but only a handful of us are actually obsessed with the one we have. I love a denim jacket that has a slightly more interesting shape than the classic fit, and this trucker jacket from Banana Republic is just that – boxy, oversized, and perfect for fall layering.

Daily Drills Ribbed Baby Tee

Ringer tees are the perfect layering fall wardrobe essential, as the colored neckline adds a touch of color when worn under sweaters and jackets. The Daily Drills Ribbed Baby Tee has long been a favorite of mine, and this colorful rendition is the perfect addition to my closet. I’m excited to think outside of the box when it comes to styling this red ringer tee. It would be so fun paired with a Canadian tuxedo look.

Abercrombie Mid Rise Barrel Jean

Though I typically gravitate toward light-wash denim, a dark-to-mid-wash pair of jeans is essential for fall. I love the barrel shape of these jeans from Abercrombie. They would look perfect with pointed-toe booties and a fitted sweater. If you’re scarred by the Abercrombie graphic tees from your teens, I urge you to set your prejudice aside, because the brand’s jeans are truly among the best of the best.

Jenni Kayne Everyday Slim Crewneck

Speaking of a fitted sweater, if you’re looking to invest in cashmere for fall, let it be the Everyday Slim Crewneck from Jenni Kayne. The perfect weight and fit for layering, I guarantee this sweater will be the base for all of your cozy fall fits. This is a sweater that will last you for years to come.

COS Cropped Wool Cardigan

A grey cardigan is arguably one of the most essential fall wardrobe staples. It goes with everything, can be worn open or closed, and is simultaneously comfy and chic. I’m currently loving this slightly cropped wool cardigan from COS, as it hits right at the waistband of my jeans and keeps me at the perfect temp. If grey isn’t your thing, this fit also comes in black.

Aritzia The Effortless Pant

Previously only an office staple, black trousers are one of my favorite pieces to revisit when fall rolls around. I love that they can be dressed up with a heel and a blouse or down with a tee and sneakers, and the Aritzia Effortless Pant truly makes doing both feel effortless. Available in a range of lengths and colors, the perfect pair exists for us all.

Clare V Corduroy Baseball Hat

Another staple fall fabric, corduroy is ready to make a comeback in your closet. From pants to jackets, corduroy is super warm and comfy, but I’m currently eyeing this unique Clare V baseball hat to add a seasonal touch to the most basic of outfits. The color and the fit are both a definite “oui” for me.

Heaven Mayhem Ribbed Gold Earrings

Every turtleneck needs a statement earring to go with it, and Heaven Mayhem is home to the best. During a season when necklaces and bracelets are often hidden, it’s a great time to invest in earrings. This vintage-inspired, gold ribbed pair will go with every outfit you create this fall and will earn you compliments everywhere you go.

Sanne Vloet reading wearing white t-shirt.

Whether you’re building a capsule wardrobe, looking to refresh your basics, or feeling stuck with your style, purchasing a good white t-shirt is always a good place to start. The best white t-shirts for women can be worn alone, styled up or down, and layered under sweaters and jackets, making them an essential investment in every woman’s closet. In theory, finding a perfect white t-shirt should be easy, but for whatever reason the number one fashion question in my group text is always “Does anybody have a white t-shirt that they actually love?”

It seems as if every tee is either too tight, too cropped, too sheer, or too baggy, and finding a tee that checks off every box feels like mission impossible. Plus, the online shopping market is overflowing with options for the best white t-shirts for women, so even choosing one to order can feel overwhelming.

But fear not! I ordered and tried every white t-shirt that the internet recommends so you don’t have to.

The Best White T-Shirts For Women

Sure, a white t-shirt is a white t-shirt and you can make do with what you’ve got. Finding the right white t-shirt though feels like Cinderella slipping her foot into the glass slipper for the first time. You realize that all of the other white t-shirts you’ve tried weren’t right for you, and a simple tee becomes your new favorite top. At least, that’s how I felt during this process.

Read on for my review of the best white t-shirts for women on the market, and find out which tee is my glass slipper.

Best Overall White T-Shirt: LESET Margo Tee

TikTok is obsessed with the Margo Tee, so I had very high expectations. Spoiler: those expectations were exceeded. I sized up to a medium so that it wouldn’t be tight across the chest and I love the fit. The length hits right at the waist of most of my jeans and the sleeves slightly flair out for a flattering fit on my arms. It’s slimming without being fitted and thin without being sheer. What more could you want in a t-shirt? It’s $68, which is justified by the quality of the fit and feel.

Final verdict: Out of all of the best white t-shirts for women I tried, this is my number one recommendation for a classic tee that’ll last you years.

Best Affordable T-Shirt: Old Navy Vintage T-Shirt

Perfect for anyone that can relate to the “If I like it, I’ll buy it in every color” trend, this Old Navy T-Shirt is one you can stock up on without breaking the bank. I have a lot of friends who prefer to buy white t-shirts in bulk and toss them when they start to age, and this was their number one recommendation. Under $20, this tee has a super similar fit and feel to the LESET tee, though it’s a bit boxier and more casual. I will say that I sized up to a medium and wish I stuck to my true size, because it already has an intentional, vintage, oversized look.

Final verdict: I’ll be living in this tee all summer without fear of ruining it with sweat stains because I obviously already own a backup.

Best Cropped T-Shirt: Cotton Citizen The Tokyo Crop Tee

Long before my search for the best white t-shirts for women began, this was (and still is) one of my all-time favorite tees. It’s cropped without showing too much of my stomach, and the boxy, drapey fit makes it comfier than a typical cropped t-shirt. The material is nice and thick, while the thick neck hem adds a modern, edgier touch. I style this t-shirt most often with high-rise jeans and sneakers, but also love pairing it with leggings and biker shorts for running errands.

Final verdict: At $90, this tee has been in my closet for about three years now and has not changed colors or shown much wear, so in my book it’s worth every penny.

Best Scoop-Neck T-Shirt: Quince Cotton Modal Scoop Neck Tee

I never thought I would describe a white t-shirt as flattering and feminine, but this Scoop Neck Tee from Quince is just that. The swooping neckline is the perfect width so it doesn’t show your bra straps or any cleavage, but it accentuates your collar bones and any necklaces you might be wearing.

Final verdict: I reach for this tee when I’m going for a more polished, dressed up look for the office or brunch, and it instantly feels more elevated than your average tee. The best part? It’s only $15 but feels like it could be $50.

Best Tucking T-Shirt: Anine Bing Lili Tee

I’ve always sought after the polished look of a white t-shirt and slacks or denim, but have never been able to find a shirt long enough or slim enough to achieve the style. That is, until I discovered the Lili Tee from Anine Bing. This is honestly one of the longest t-shirts I’ve ever tried on, making it the perfect shirt for tucking in. Slim fitting on the body (even though it looks massive on the model), I absolutely love the balance of the baggy arms on this tee, because let’s be honest, nobody wants a tight arm opening.

Final verdict: I know that $100 feels crazy to spend on a plain white t-shirt, but the simple elegance of this tee will make you think otherwise, trust me.

Best Pointelle T-Shirt: LESET Pointelle Tee

Another fave from LESET, the Pointelle Tee is the perfect non-boring basic. It’s essentially a cross between a t-shirt and a top, because the pointelle knit and scalloped edges give the shirt enough detail to hold its own without accessories. On-trend yet still classic like all of the best white t-shirts for women, this tee is a girly-girl’s dream. I also love styling this ultra-feminine tee with denim overalls for some funky juxtaposition or under a crewneck sweater, letting the scalloped details peek through the neckline. Bonus points for the pointelle fabric being super breathable for the warmer months!

Final verdict: If you haven’t discovered the comfy, style-driven world of pointelle, welcome. This feminine tee with classic details is the perfect way to step up your white t-shirt game.

Best Long-Sleeve T-Shirt: Daily Drills Ribbed Long Sleeve

A long-sleeved version of my favorite ribbed baby tee, the Daily Drills Ribbed Long Sleeve is one of my most-worn tees in my closet. It’s a layering dream come true, pairing perfectly under vests, cardigans, overalls, and blazers, while still being thin enough so you don’t overheat. I also love wearing this t-shirt on my evening walks in lieu of a jacket. It has the perfect cropped-but-not-too-cropped fit and the armholes are surprisingly not too tight.

Final verdict: With this long-sleeved fit as proof, I’m thinking Daily Drills is due for a restock of the short-sleeved version ASAP because that would also make the shortlist for the best white t-shirts for women.

Camille Styles best white sneakers for women.

Every summer, the quest for a new pair of white sneaks kicks into high gear. Whether you’re torn between classic elegance, contemporary trends, or athletic functionality, finding the perfect pair is crucial. While trends come and go, comfort and durability are essential for any sneaker enthusiast. However, each person has unique needs and preferences when it comes to footwear. That’s why we’ve curated a comprehensive guide to the best white sneakers for women this season, guaranteeing a perfect match for every foot and style.

The Best White Sneakers for Women

To define the list, I considered several key factors: comfort, price range, style, and overall quality. While preferences may vary, these sneakers stood out based on these qualifiers.

Comfort is paramount—no matter how trendy or cute a pair is, you won’t reach for them if they’re not cozy on your feet. Price also played a role, with most options falling within the $150-$250 range. I pored through online reviews, and crowd-sourced opinions, and tried several pairs myself. Did your favorite sneaker make the list?

1. Best Overall: Greats The Royal 2.0

Meet the best of the best white sneakers for women. While the brand is newer, this pair solidified my obsession. The look is sharp but street style-worthy, letting you feel put-together while still expressing a little flair. They hit all the marks: comfort, style, versatility, and classic design.

Why We Love It: For under $200, nothing beats this well-made pair. They’ll last you years, and from skirts to breezy dresses to denim—they’ll look good with every outfit.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: Given their popularity, it’s hard to keep these white sneaks in stock. However, the brand offers other colorways that are just as good.

2. Luxury Splurge: Common Projects Original Achilles Low Sneaker

Quality should justify the price, and Common Projects delivers. Made and sourced in Italy, these sneakers use the finest leather. I’ve had five pairs, and they hold up well and are easy to clean. (Psst… they’re Camille’s favorite, too. They’re the secret to her streamlined packing list.)

Why We Love It: Timeless style and unbeatable quality. You can have them for years and they’ll still look the same as the day you bought them.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: They are one of the pricier pairs on this list.

3. Best Summer Sneaker: Freda Salvator Eda D’Orsay Sneaker

Women-owned and small-batch designs make these sneakers unique. The cutout design keeps your foot cool in the summer heat while adding a statement-making flair.

Why We Love It: Breathable for summer and stylish enough to wear with dresses. The padding ensures ultimate comfort.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: Best for warmer climates.

4. Best Affordable: Keds Champion Original Lace-Up

Keds have been a staple since the 80s. Highlights include support for narrow feet and affordability. These canvas shoes are easy to clean with spot remover.

Why We Love It: Given the price, you can justify adding a new pair to your collection season after season.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: They don’t offer a ton of cushion, and the cotton can be hard to keep clean without a stain guard.

5. The Sporty White Sneaker: Nike Air Max 90

Comfort, craft, and iconic design all land the Air Max on this list. These are my go-to sneakers, perfect for running after kids while looking stylish.

Why We Love It: Adds height and an instant cool girl factor. Made for performance and comfort.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: They can be chunky for those who prefer a slimmer profile.

6. Best Elevated Classic: Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Platform Canvas

A cult classic that never goes out of style. I’ve seen the construction process at Converse headquarters, and it’s beyond impressive.

Why We Love It: A timeless sneaker that always returns to style. Every fashion girl keeps a pair in her closet.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: Can look large on long, narrow feet.

7. A Classic with a Twist: Reebok x Anine Bing Freestyle Highshoe

This collaboration brings fashion and comfort to the forefront. Reebok’s durability with Anine Bing’s style makes these a standout.

Why We Love It: Stylish with great ankle support. I love how the shoe looks with a scrunched sock and shorts.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: More of a cream color than pure white.

8. Best Vegan Leather: Loci Origin Sneaker

Preppy and sustainable, these sneakers are made from non-food grade corn and recycled textiles.

Why We Love It: Perfect for the tenniscore trend and eco-friendly.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: Only available online, so trying them on in person isn’t an option.

9. Best Slip-On: Vans Classic Slip-On Shoe

With a wide range of sizing options and the ability to select between a wide and regular width, Vans guarantees a perfect fit. The padded tongue makes these all the more comfortable and easy to slide on. It’s giving effortless off-duty.

Why We Love It: Affordable comfort paired with an iconic design.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: The flat sole may not be comfortable for those with a high instep.

10. Best Splurge: Loewe Flow Retro Runner Sneakers

Cushioned and stylish, the Loewe sneakers make a fashion-forward statement. The quality stitching and gum stole help you stand out while still giving a low-key, cool vibe.

Why We Love It: The gum sole adds a trendy touch.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: High price and somewhat trendy, so these may feel dated a few years down the road.

11. Iconic Streetwear: Nike Air Force 1 ’07

Durably stitched overlay and clean finishes contribute to the signature, standout appeal. Because these are performance-driven and designed for an array of activities, this pair is an obvious choice.

Why We Love It: Cult following and stylish design.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: Sizing runs a bit large.

12. Best Platform: Superga 2740 Mid Platform Sneaker

The platform trend is still going strong—but with comfort and timeless design being a concern, you might want to take part while still lying low. The perfect sneaker for you? Superga’s 2740. A mid-platform design offers height without sacrificing flexibility.

Why We Love It: Adds height without being too bulky.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: Platforms add some weight.

13. Best Sustainable: Veja Esplar Leather Logo Sneakers

Veja’s material and construction are top-notch, and they’re a certified B Corp.

Why We Love It: Environmentally-friendly production and signature, stylish appeal.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: These may not be supportive for those with high arches.

14. Most Comfortable: Adidas Pharell x Samba Humane Race

When Pharell teams up with an iconic sportswear brand, it’s impossible to say no. These sneakers feel like walking on a cloud and have a sleek design. And while the Samba trend is fading out, these feel unique enough to always make a stylish statement.

Why We Love It: Extremely comfortable.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: These are technically men’s, so best for those with a larger shoe size.

15. Best Classic Style: New Balance 550

Versatile and stylish, these sneakers are perfect for multiple activities. When folks drop the “dad sneaker” moniker, this is what they mean. And yes, that’s a good thing.

Why We Love It: Stylish without being overly trendy.

Cons, but not dealbreakers: Slightly chunky silhouette.

As the temps get hotter and the days get longer, my excitement for peak summer is at an all-time high. Beach days and backyard nights are top of mind, and naturally I’m already dreaming about what I’ll wear to everything on my calendar. While not every season calls for a completely new closet (check out my summer capsule wardrobe), a refresh is always fun. I love shaking things up with summer wardrobe essentials that bridge the gap between timeless and trendy. And no, you don’t have to completely shell out for a fresh look. From sundresses to pearls, we’ve handpicked 20 summer wardrobe essentials to bring new life to your closet this season—all for under $200.

Camille Styles summer wardrobe essentials.

Under $200 Summer Wardrobe Essentials

Whether your summer is full of traveling to new destinations, lounging on the beach, or just enjoying being home, our curation of summer wardrobe essentials has something for everyone—and pieces that do everything, too. You’ll find silk pants that transition from travel to play, sundresses that go from brunch to drinks, and shoes to match it all. Whether your wardrobe needs a complete overhaul or just a few new finds, dive into our complete list of summer wardrobe essentials below.

A.L.V. Jewels Aubrey Pearl Necklace

If you’re going to buy one thing from this list of summer wardrobe essentials, let it be this chunky pearl necklace from ALV Jewels. It automatically elevates the simplest of outfits and adds a seasonal touch to a basic look. I’ve been wearing this necklace nonstop with everything from white t-shirts to sundresses to bikinis, and it’s my most-asked-about item.

COS Raffia Mini Sling Bag

I never feel fully dressed these days without this COS Raffia Bag. I love dressing it up and down depending on where I’m heading, as it goes with everything in my closet. It comes with me to the beach, to the farmer’s market, out to dinner, and everywhere in between. Big enough to fit a book but small enough not to eat my lipgloss, this truly is the perfect summer bag.

Reformation Olina Linen Pant

A must-have in my summer capsule wardrobe, these Reformation linen pants are the best on the market. They are lightweight and breezy, while not being too sheer, and look great with sweaters, button downs, and bikini tops. I also love that they have an adjustable tie waist so I can wear them high-waisted or lower on my hips depending on which look I’m going for. My mom and I both bought a pair of these pants and agree that they’re summer wardrobe essentials for any age.

Le Spec Outta Love Sunglasses

After losing one-too-many pairs of sunglasses last year, I decided that I simply can’t afford to spend more than $100 on sunglasses. Luckily, that does not mean I have to skimp on style because these Le Spec sunnies garner more compliments than my designer pairs. They’ve been dubbed the sisterhood of the traveling sunglasses by my friend group because they quite literally look good on everyone. This chic oval shape comes in plenty of colors, from red to tortoise, so everyone can have their pick.

Free People We The Free Ziggy Denim Overalls

It’s officially white denim season for those who follow the ‘in between Memorial Day and Labor Day’ rule. Though I love a winter white and wear white denim year round, my favorite way to wear white denim in the summer is white denim overalls. A good pair of white overalls, vintage or new, styled with a white tank or tee and a pair of sandals is my go-to effortless outfit during the warmer months. It’s also a great travel outfit, and the overalls double as a beach coverup to throw on over a swimsuit while on vacation.

H&M Printed T-Shirt

Summer is one of my favorite seasons for fashion because you can blame your casual dressing on the heat. A t-shirt and shorts is perfectly acceptable when it’s upwards of 80 degrees outside, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a little fun with it. A graphic tee is always an easy way to add some spice to an outfit and all things fruit-focused are having a moment in 2024. I recently bought this tee from H&M in a size large for an oversized fit and I can already tell it will be one of my most-worn tops of the summer. I styled this shirt with silk pants over the weekend, but am excited to get creative and dress it up with mini skirts and down with denim.

Madewell Greta Ballet Flat

Call me crazy, but there are just certain settings where I feel too exposed in an open-toed pair of sandals. I’ve always battled with risking full-foot exposure in sandals and looking too sporty in sneakers, until I got a pair of woven ballet flats. They are the perfect, summery, close-toed shoes that seem to complete just about every outfit I put on, quickly making their way onto my shortlist of summer wardrobe essentials.

8 Other Reasons Shell Earrings

Don’t underestimate the power of a good pair of earrings. A white t-shirt and jeans can be transformed by a fun, seasonal pair of earrings and these shell huggies are my number one pick. These are obviously a great vacation accessory, but I also love wearing them to the office and out to dinner to bring the summertime vibes with me all season, no matter where I am. I also appreciate that these have a full hoop, so I don’t have to deal with the uncomfortable peg on the back of my ear.

DISSH Oscar Scoop Neck Linen Vest

This DISSH linen vest has been a summer wardrobe essential of mine for going on two years now. I purchased this vest in white for Memorial Day Weekend 2023, and have since bought it in black and worn both upwards of 50 times. It’s the perfect summer top, as it’s as breathable and cool as any tank top, but is much more elevated and chic. As someone who is wary of deep v-necks, I find the scoop neck incredibly flattering and comfortable. I style this vest alone as a top with jeans or its matching linen skirt, and over swimsuits with linen shorts. There are so many ways to style this top that it becomes difficult not to reach for it every single day.

DISSH Syrah White Linen Midi Skirt

The perfect partner to my ride-or-die linen vest, this maxi skirt is a must for anyone investing in summer wardrobe essentials. It looks great worn as a set, but I also style this skirt with a white tee or tank and a sweater over my shoulders for a classic, coastal summer look. The linen is breezy, the silhouette is flattering, and, for all of those concerned about Australian sizing, the shipping is pretty quick and the returns couldn’t be easier!

Havaianas x FARM Rio Banana Tree Flip Flops

I love it when a nostalgic trend comes back into style, and Havaianas flip flops are the shoe of the summer (once again). Strategic collaborations with brands like Farm Rio and Maison Kitsuné brought new life to the classic flip flop brand—plus some major social media buzz. At such an affordable price point and with hundreds of prints and colors to pick from, these are the perfect beach shoes for everyone in the family. Bonus points for laying flat and taking up little-to-no room in a suitcase!

Universal Thread™ Crochet Bucket Hat

Whether you’re motivated by sun protection or fashion, a woven hat is always a good idea for sunny summer days. I love this raffia bucket hat from Target because it has the perfect brim—it covers my entire face—but isn’t too big to wear while laying out. It’s lightweight, affordable, and makes every outfit automatically look and feel more styled. What more could a girl want?

Gap × DÔEN Eyelet Midi Dress

A part of what might be one of this year’s most anticipated fashion collabs, this Gap x DÔEN sundress is the epitome of a summer wardrobe essential. Simple but not basic, and trendy but still timeless, this dress can be styled with just about everything in your closet. It can be dressed up with a pair of heels or down with a pair of sandals, and still look chic barefoot! Plus, everyone will be envious you managed to score such a coveted piece.

Supergoop! Glowscreen

Although not a piece of clothing, I couldn’t write a list of summer wardrobe essentials without including Supergoop! Glowscreen. This product is my number one essential year round, but it really shines in the summertime when I’m not wearing as much makeup. Obviously it provides SPF, but the Glowscreen gives my skin the perfect hint of color and a glow that is to die for. I like to think of it as the finishing touch to any effortless, summer look.

J.Crew Oversized Silk Bandana

I’m a sucker for added detail and consider the concept itself a summer wardrobe essential. I love adding pops of color and seasonal touches to my outfits, and nothing screams summer like lemons. I plan on tying this scarf just about everywhere I can this summer—from my hair to my purse to my neck.

Daily Drills Terry Oversized Crew

I live in this crewneck during those “in-between” moments of summer—post-ocean dip but pre-aperitivos, first thing in the morning but before getting dressed, etc. The towel terry material is so soft and cozy, while still being beachy and cool enough for a summer night. Cute styled as a cover-up, with jeans, or lounging around the house, consider this your one-and-done sweatshirt for summer. It’s also unisex, so watch out because it might become one of your S.O.’s summer wardrobe essentials, too.

Reformation Stella Denim Mini Dress

Canadian tuxedos were all the rage last fall and winter, and the denim craze is here to stay throughout summer. In most parts of the world, jeans and a denim jacket isn’t a practical summer outfit, so this Reformation dress is the perfect way to stay on trend in the heat. I’d style this dress with a simple pair of sandals and a raffia bag, or high socks with sneakers and a vintage baseball cap. Whatever accessories you choose to add (even if it’s none), this dress is a summer wardrobe essential all on its own.

DONNI. Silky Simple Pants

I’m actively wearing these pants as I am writing this, so believe me when I say I feel like I’m in pajamas but look like I’m dressed to the nines. DONNI has officially cracked the code when it comes to looking chic while feeling cozy, and I recommend investing in these pants to wear to the office, on a plane, at home, and everywhere in between. At the moment, I’m styling these pants with a tee and an oversized sweater, but they’ll look just as great with a going-out top and a pair of heels later.

Madewell Split-Crewneck Cardigan Tank in Stripe

I live in cardigans during the fall and winter and am obsessing over this summer substitute from Madewell. I’m also into stripes at the moment and love the nautical, coastal-grandmother vibes of the navy and white. I’m adding this to my cart and plan to style it with the Reformation linen pants and the DISSH linen skirt linked above.

Gap Organic Cotton Big Shirt

No roundup of summer wardrobe essentials is complete without a solid, oversized white button-down. This can be worn under white overalls, over a sundress, tucked into jeans, with a swimsuit—the list goes on. I love spicing up a button-down with fun pearls and earrings to bring pops of color to the white shirt, but honestly, sometimes less is more and a pair of gold hoops does the job. You really can’t go wrong, so just have some fun with it.

Chronic overpackers, listen up!

Over the years, I’ve learned a few secrets to a happy life. Takeaways include: Proceed with kindness. Prioritize simplicity. And the kicker—never check your luggage. Sometimes it’s impossible, but when I have the opportunity, being a “carry-on only” girl streamlines every trip. Because I’ve dubbed this the summer of adventure and play, I’m not overcomplicating anything—my travel capsule wardrobe, included.

I’ve been to Japan, Mexico, Joshua Tree, and countless other destinations with just a carry-on in tow. The key is to pack multi-use items that can be worn for various occasions and styled in creative ways. By doing that, you ensure every piece can be worn multiple times. That’s right, we’re only making space for clothes that do the most. For that, I always look to my friends at Haven Well Within. The brand is my go-to for pieces that are effortless but elevated—perfecting a laidback but thoughtfully put-together look. Their Summertime Shop is a well-curated edit of all the breezy, lightweight fabrics and summer-inspired colors I love wearing this time of year.

Read on for my styling tips and all my favorite Haven Well Within pieces I’m adding to my travel capsule wardrobe this summer.

How I Plan My Summer Travel Capsule Wardrobe

I should be clear: while I’ll carve out space for some sightseeing, the main goal of my summer travels is to rest and recharge. As such, I’ve intentionally aligned the ethos of my travel capsule wardrobe. I’m leaning into a handful of my favorite, versatile items that can be mixed and matched. The result? Gorgeous vacation outfits that help me feel my best and keep decision-making to a minimum. By keeping my options pared back, I can focus on relaxing instead of stressing about what I’m going to wear.

May through August, there’s also a sense of the world opening and coming to life all around us. It’s a balance of making the most of these longer days while still leaning into moments of quiet and stillness. For me, while on vacation, that looks like a full embrace of all summer has to offer. I’m packing outfits that let me prioritize my well-being (yoga, walks, etc.) and enjoying apéritifs on the patio and plenty of dinners al fresco. Essentially, I want to feel good from the inside out—and these travel capsule wardrobe pieces from Haven Well Within help me do exactly that.

Check the Weather

Before you do anything, this is an absolute must. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been burned thinking I’ll head somewhere and assuming it’ll be mid-80s and sunny. Learn from my mistake: check your weather app a few days in advance to see what the weather’s doing at your destination. Because this is the summer, obviously you won’t need to bring your heaviest jacket. But anticipate chillier evenings that call for a sweater or wrap. I like to bring at least one layering piece that I’ll wear on the plane. (I can’t be the only one who’s always freezing while flying!)

Camille Styles skirt.

Define Your Vibe

A travel capsule wardrobe shouldn’t just make sense from a practical standpoint—your clothes should also express a vibe. Before curating anything, I like to focus on a few words that define the energy and aesthetic of my wardrobe. Because my trip itinerary is from Ibiza to Provence to Paris, I’m aiming for a Mediterranean-inspired, European summer feel. (Effortless, but elevated.) That translates to easy layers, flowy fabrics, and pieces that do well with or without accessories.

Along with this, I also like to create a color story. Because we’re aiming for pieces that mix and match well, you want to incorporate just a few colors into the mix. Here, I opted for creamy whites, natural linen, darker accents, and just a few prints. That way, I have plenty of neutrals to work with while also creating enough interest in each outfit choice.

Plan Your Outfits

Maybe this seems obvious, but you want to ensure in advance that you’ll actually wear what you’re bringing. Try on individual pieces to confirm that you have enough outfit options for the length of your stay. Snap mirror selfies for every outfit so you have a plan to refer back to. This prevents you from overpacking, as you’ll know to bring only what’s included in your outfit formulas.

Choose Your Accessories Wisely

When you’re tight on packing space, you need to make your accessories work for you. That means no teeny-tiny bags that can only fit a credit card—I’m opting for purses, shoes, and sunglasses that I’ll pair with every outfit. Raffia is a perfect material to lean on as it’s both trendy and timeless, giving all your fits a distinct summer feel. I’ll carry the Raffia Market Bag to the beach, meals out, and of course, for every farmer’s market haul (it’s Europe, you know there’ll be plenty). I also love a flat sandal that’s comfy but still special enough to slide on for an evening out. And lastly, sunnies add an instant element of chicness to your look, without taking up hardly any space in your personal item.

Prioritize Season-Specific Fabrics

Summer is not the time to pull out your best cashmere (though a cashmere wrap can come in handy for colder nights). Instead, look for summer-appropriate fabrics and materials that you can easily throw on. Right now, I’m loving gauze, French terry, and linen. Not only does the look scream summer, but they’re light enough to keep you from overheating under the hot summer sun. And… they also layer well. So when you do need a little more warmth, you’re covered.

Travel capsule wardrobe accessories.

Follow the Two-Shoe Rule

This is a hill I will happily die on. Because we’re opting for lighter fabrics, your shoes will inevitably take up the most space in your suitcase. Minimize the issue by packing only two pairs. I like a pair of strappy slides that I can easily dress up or down and a bonus shoe (either a sneaker, boot, or whatever you need for additional activities and events). Then, I’ll wear my Common Projects sneakers on the flight. They double as my casual shoe while still being comfortable enough to wear for several hours in the air.

Be Ruthless With Your Skincare

We’ve exclusively chatted clothes up until this point, but if you’re like me, you’ll be tempted to pack your entire medicine cabinet into your carry-on. A word to the wise: don’t. I separate my skincare and makeup into two bags, my Beis cosmetic case for the former and a smaller waterproof bag for my makeup. From there, I make sure I’m packing only what I’ll use every day (and I’m following Gen Z’s cue and prioritizing multifunctional makeup). For more makeup and skincare packing tips, our beauty editor shares her tried-and-true strategy.

I’m tired of the lie that neutral is boring. Listen, I’m certainly not a hater of the classic “pop of color,” but also no apologies for the effortless and classic look that is a white t-shirt and jeans with a perfect *chef’s kiss* fit. We at Camille Styles love to celebrate style in all ways, it’s true. However, allow me to state the obvious and say that we love a neutral look. Neutral decor for the home is calming—and the same is true for your closet. Today we’ll prove it, with a cool-not-boring neutral capsule wardrobe collection. Ahead, we’ll show you what you need to get started—and exactly how to style it.

How to Build a Neutral Capsule Wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of high-quality tops, bottoms, dresses, rompers, shoes, and accessories that can be paired together for a seemingly endless amount of outfits. It’s meant to bring ease and even joy into getting dressed. The trick is building a collection that not only plays well together but ultimately feels and looks like you.

The downside of building a collection is that it takes time and resources—it may feel like a large investment up front. But that’s exactly what it is: an investment. Collecting pieces that are made with high-quality fabrics and materials in classic shapes and styles means you’re removing yourself from the fast-fashion hamster wheel. You’ll wear these pieces for longer, and guarantee you’ll feel better in them, too. Plus, you’ll actually save money in the long run. Here’s how to get started in two easy steps.

STEP ONE: Shop Your Closet

It’s time to purge. Take a look at all the clothes, shoes, and accessories you already own. We all have our systems for a closet cleanout, but if you need a kickstart, here are 10 things to remove from your closet right now. Once you’ve made space, do the hard work of determining what you truly love and want to keep. For your day-to-day pieces, here’s a good question to ask yourself: Would I wear it today?

STEP TWO: Determine What You’re Missing

Is it easy to get dressed for work but you struggle with date-night outfits? Are you lounging around in stained t-shirts and old sweats? Have your basics taken a beating? Use the starter kit below to find gaps in your wardrobe.

Of all the efforts I make to romanticize my life, the school drop-off line may be the most unexpected. Mornings are a rush of finding shoes and slapping together sunflower butter and jelly sandwiches (solidarity to my fellow nut-free school parents)—and this is the time I choose to tap into my main character energy? You’re dang straight. As my friend Krista says, I’m doing “the most with the least.” And thanks to my trusted rotation of essentials, a stylish enough school drop-off outfit is less than five minutes away.

Featured image from our interview with Marie Kouadio Amouzame by Belathée Photography.

Witness: the Mom in the wild. Complete with day-old hair, no makeup, pants she maaaay have also slept in last night, and yet—she’s a whole vibe.

Why should I care?

Here’s what caring about a school drop-off outfit (or a pick-up one) isn’t: it is not about trying to portray a false Instagram-level-perfect parent. But it’s also not about buying into this idea that (despite the photo above) moms just live in high buns and snot-covered t-shirts. Even in those early baby years, I couldn’t subscribe to this idea that I’d walked through some invisible threshold where I was no longer allowed to express myself through fashion or experiment with new looks. There is certainly grace for that time and it’s true, showers were a bit fewer and farther between. But I learned that if I don’t prioritize myself, no one else will do that for me.

And in my current stage of life, adding a gold hoop before I run out the door with the kids just makes me feel more like me. Never discount the small stuff.

Make it yours.

Of course, the best parenting advice I’ve ever heard is the Amy Poehler classic, “Good for her! Not for me.” You might be motivated for different reasons. Perhaps you’re in need of an easy capsule wardrobe for the weekdays so you have one less decision to make. Maybe it’s a boost of confidence in the mornings to carry you through the day. Perhaps it’s a reminder that NO, you are not a slob. You are an incredibly capable and smart human who also happens to look super cute in a baseball cap.

And so without further ado, here are the 10 items you need to go from PJs to put together in minutes.

A Go-To Sweatsuit Set

I used to feel bad about spending a lot of money on something like… sweatpants. I used to feel bad about a lot of things. However, I’m a mom now and my DGAF meter is high—WHAT A GIFT. Still, when you consider the price per wear, the beloved sweatsuit that I’ve worn, snuggled, and likely cried into since 2020 comes in at about .000001 cent total. That’s what we moms call a bargain.

Motherly Advice: Pair your sweatsuit set with a long trench and a beanie on a cold day. Your outfit is instantly elevated and it’s practical, to boot.

The Coziest French Terry Crew Neck Sweatshirt

u003cpu003eEvery closet needs a soft heather grey crewneck sweatshirt (this one comes in a few more colors if you want duplicates). The French terry is like wearing a cozy blanket—a chic one that you can run errands in. Fits true to size but size up if you like it super oversized.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eSizes XXS-2XLu003c/pu003e

alo Accodale Crew Neck Pullover, $118

Classic Unixsex-Style Sweatpants With Pockets

u003cpu003eThese are the classic sweatpants you’re looking for. A unisex style with an oversized silhouette, these babies come in seven colors and feature pockets that don’t bulge. These are true to size if you like ’em baggy, or size down for a relaxed fit.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eSizes XXS-2XLu003c/pu003e

alo Accolade Sweatpant, $118

An Oversized Boyfriend Tee

The goal here is to find a tee so big and soft that you want to sleep in it. (And you just might.) You need a t-shirt you can throw on with the aforementioned sweatpants, jeans, or your preferred type of shorts. If you love the oversized look, you can always find something here. But if you’re looking for that super wearable basic tee, the All Yours Cotton T-Shirt is a solid option.

Motherly Advice: White t-shirts are essential to a mother’s wardrobe but they are also magnets for kid goo. Stock your purse with this and your laundry room with this.

Relaxed-Fit Tee (12 Colors)

u003cpu003eThis breathable t-shirt is made from famously soft Pima cotton fabric. It falls right at the hip for moderate coverage or an easy tuck. Don’t be surprised if it becomes your new everyday tee.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eSizes 0-20u003c/pu003e

Lulu Lemon All Yours Cotton T-Shirt, $58

Everyday Bike Shorts

We are officially in our bike-short era. I’ll never forget the time a friend showed up to an event in bike shorts and a blazer in the name of fashion. She was on the cusp of a trend that most moms at the time would have snubbed. But just yesterday, I found myself in a text thread with a group of moms discussing the Costco sale on bike shorts. That’s when I knew—we’re either at the end of a trend (in which case, #cringebutfree) or perhaps bike shorts aren’t a trend at all. Like jeans and leggings before them, bike shorts might just be here to stay.

Motherly Advice: May as well grab the matching bra. Throw on an oversized jean jack and BOOM. An outfit.

Bike Shorts That Don’t Ride Up (6 Colors)

u003cpu003eThese beloved compression shorts have an 8.5u0022 seam and they are made for movement. No tugging or pulling required.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eSizes XXS-6XLu003c/pu003e

Girlfriend Black High-Rise Bike Short, $48

An Easy-Wear Dress

It might seem like a stretch to go from sweats to a dress but in my mind, these two things are very nearly one and the same. The key is finding a dress that is SO easy to wear. Here are the requirements: you don’t need any special undergarments to wear with it (and maybe none at all), it’s wrinkle-free, and it’s likely patterned or a dark color to hide any coffee drips. The fabric should be comfortable and soft, and bonus points if there are no zippers or fasteners. I’m talking you pull this thing on like it’s a worn-out, well-loved t-shirt. The only difference is this is a fully realized outfit—truly the most for the least.

Motherly Advice: I still ride hard for the nap dress. I’ve had this one for nearly two years and it’s still in my regular rotation. And my Christy Dawn dress has been going strong for SIX years. Price per wear, y’all…

A Dress That Requires No Thinking (5 Colors)

u003cpu003eJust about any of Christy Dawn’s regenerative cotton dresses could become a mainstay in your closet. But the Brooklyn dress has that simple, classic feminity—enough to balance sneakers and wet hair.u003c/pu003eu003cpu003eSizes XS-XLu003c/pu003e

Christy Dawn The Brooklyn Dress, $298

A Pair of Chunky Sneakers

Call it a dad shoe, call it a TikTok trend—I call ’em comfortable sneakers that are versatile enough to bring some style to athleisure or dress down a dress. This is the pair I wear on the daily and they also happen to be the only shoes that’ll get me through a day at Disneyland comfortably. (Cool as they are, Air Force 1’s and Vans couldn’t hack it.) You really can’t go wrong with New Balance in general, but this is the classic style that stands the test of time—in both quality and fashion.

Motherly Advice: You also need socks. These are my go-to (a fabulous Amazon find if I do say so).

The Only Sneaker You’ll Ever Need (6 Colors)

u003cpu003eThis shoe was literally built to u0022do a lot of things well.u0022 Sound like someone you know? They’re versatile, just like you. Go from school drop-off to a walk around the block to work to the DMV like the icon you are—all the while rocking the most iconic shoe.u003c/pu003e

New Balance 574 Core, $84.99

A Cushy Pair of Slides or Sandals

Confession: I slide my feet into sneakers without unlacing them first (sneaker heads will cringe). It’s not great for the lasting quality of my shoes which is why I love an easy pair of slides. You literally put ’em on and go—and anything that prevents a mom from crouching down to get it done is music to her ears. These aren’t cheap but listen, that’s the point. The way we moms go hard in the warmer months means we need a sandal that can hold up. These do the trick.

Motherly Advice: ALWAYS keep well stocked on nail polish remover. Moms love to paint their toenails and then go literal years without removing that one final swoop of chipped polish. These sandals demand better.

Slide ‘n Go Sandals (4 Colors)

u003cpu003eTalk about a color (and material) that goes with everything. These leather slides feature a soft footbed and cushy criss-cross straps. At the cross section of comfort and style, they’re best-sellers for a reason.u003c/pu003e

Anine Bing Lizzie Slides in Cognac, $350

A Well-Shaped Baseball Cap

If there is anyone who understands the magic of a baseball cap, it is one Camille Styles. She rocks ’em on cozy days and chic days alike and it’s the perfect sporty-cool accessory. Similarly, I wear mine at least once a week—mostly on dirty or bad hair days. Sometimes I throw it on my head as I’m out the door only to find myself wearing it all day because, let’s face it, a well-shaped (and that is the key) baseball hat is a dang cute look.

Motherly Advice: I’ve ruined a baseball cap or two in the machine wash—don’t do that. I’ve heard you can wash ’em in the dishwasher but here’s how to do it according to Nike.

The Perfect Baseball Cap for Dirty Hair

u003cpu003eCamille did it. She designed an essential baseball cap to meet all your bad—or good!—hair day needs. It’s a great shape (won’t make your face or head look wonky) and the minimal CZ logo makes it easy to pair with any look.u003c/pu003e

Casa Zuma Baseball Cap, $40

A Pair of Sunglasses

On a normal day, sunglasses are practical. When you’re dropping off and picking up kids, sunglasses are essential. They block the sun! They hide tired eyes! They look chic! Is there anything sunglasses can’t do to elevate a look?

Motherly Advice: When it comes to sunnies, just do what the TikTok-ers say. We’re not wearing oversized frames with gold detail anymore. Square frames are currently in—don’t overthink it.

Chic Sunnies For Instant Style (3 Colors)

u003cpu003eGet you some polarized lenses in a cool shape. (Octogan is in!) Regular moms will call them practical. u003cemu003eCool momsu003c/emu003e will call them the most essential accessory.u003c/pu003e

Z Supply Off Duty Sunglasses, $89

Chunky Gold Hoops

I wear these magic gold hoops every day. They don’t agitate my ears and they’re unexpectedly light for their size and shape. This is is what you call a small item with a BIG impact. I put them on and witness an INSTANT glow up. If you listen to me just one time: buy these earrings.

Motherly Advice: Get a backup pair. I recently came home from a night of giving piggyback rides to a “pick me uuuup”-level child. In typical toddler mystery, only one earring survived.

Magic Gold Hoops (4 Sizes)

u003cpu003eIf you won’t listen to me, listen to 43,000 five-star reviews. These earrings are near perfection. I wear the 20 mm size which I’d classify as a small hoop. They catch the light just right and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without them.u003c/pu003e

PAVOI 14K Gold Plated Hoops (Amazon), $14

Double Duty Makeup: A Lip & Cheek Stain

My school drop-off outfits generally lack color, which is why I rely on a single product to punch it all up. I’ve been using Tata Harper’s “Naughty” for years and in my opinion. it’s the best in the game. All it takes is a little on your index finger to swipe on cheeks and then rub the remaining on your lips. DONE. It’s the cherry on top that brings the whole look together.

Motherly Advice: This is a strongly pigmented product which is great because a little goes a long way and not great because little hands will grab it and paint their school clothes while you’re brushing your teeth. YOU can learn this the easy way.

A Go-To Lip u0026 Cheek Stain (5 Colors)

u003cpu003eFor when you want to look flush but not FLUSHED, you know? This weightless cream blush practically melts into your skin as it blends just beautifully. There is no sticky feeling afterward and it won’t disappear by the end of the day.u003c/pu003e

Tata Harper Vitamin-Infused Blush, $45

Want more? These are my WFH essentials—aka, everything I live in post school drop-off.

Good news: summer is here. The even better news? We still have months to go before the fall chill sets in. And while I’m excited for all things cozy come the colder months, there’s nothing better than curating my summer wardrobe. We’ve said goodbye to long sleeves and layers and welcomed skirts and shorts with open arms. Truly, changing up my summer wardrobe is one of the things I love most about the shift in season.

I’ve always been a firm believer that what you wear can play a big role in your mood and overall self-confidence, and every season is a new opportunity to showcase the best version of yourself.

How to Build a Sustainable Summer Wardrobe

I fondly recall my days in New York living in a small apartment. I would pack up my winter clothes to make space for new options that would fill my closet each summer. However, as I got older, had children, and started to pay closer attention to my carbon footprint, it became abundantly clear that this turnover rate was completely unsustainable and very unaffordable!

In the past few years, I’ve been working on my summer wardrobe capsule collection. It’s made up of timeless pieces that work for me and my body year after year. Taking this approach keeps me from constantly purchasing new clothing to keep up with trends. Sure, I love to follow them here and there, but as a former stylist of 11 years, I have a pretty good idea of what staple items will never go out of style. Trust me: These are the pieces that will anchor your summer wardrobe.

24 Timeless Summer Wardrobe Staples

If you’ve been thinking about investing in some go-to summer essentials that will last you for years to come, you know I’ve got some tips for you, babe. Here are some of my all-time favorite pieces that you might want to consider when building your very own capsule summer wardrobe.

Dresses

Vince Satin Slip Dress

I think I own three of these Vince slip dresses in different colors! If you have curves like me, it hits in all the right places.

Cuyana Silk Slip Dress

Sometimes, shiny silk fabric can feel a little too fancy if you’re going for a more casual look. This silk slip by Cyuana still feels special while managing to fit any occasion—dressed up or dressed down.

Karen Millen Hammered Satin Cowl Woven Slip Dress

I absolutely love this luxurious design, which skims curves in all the right places and features a slinky shape, slender straps, and draped cowl detailing to show off your summer skin.

L’Agence Serita Silk Charmeuse Maxi Slipdress

Effortlessly elegant and flattering, this maxi slip dress is bias-cut from lustrous silk charmeuse that fluidly skims curves.

Fleur du Mal Short Cowl Neck Slip

A look that goes perfectly from the bar to the bedroom.

Jumpers

Ozma of California Vanessa Romper

This romper is perfect for a day at the beach over your swimsuit or on its own for a patio hang.

Norma Kamali x REVOLVE Low Back Slip Jumpsuit

Want to step up your wedding guest attire? This unexpected jumpsuit is the ideal dress alternative.

Everlane The Fatigue Short Sleeve Jumpsuit

The belted option for work or the weekend.

& Other Stories Sleeveless Bustier Jumpsuit

The unicorn of jumpsuits? One that’s comfy and cozy while still giving you a shape—and that manages to hug you in all the right places.

Mate the Label Linen Short Sleeve Jumpsuit

An environmentally-friendly option with extended sizing and tons of color options! If you haven’t discovered Mate the Label yet, this is the perfect introduction to the brand.

Jeans

Levi’s Dad Jeans

Dad jeans are on-trend but timeless, chic but cozy. This pick lets you dip your toe into the 90s trend without going overboard.

Madewell Wide Leg Crop Jean

High-rise meets wide-leg. Flattering and fit for any occasion this summer (and beyond). While we’re building your summer wardrobe, you can always be prepared for the seasons to come.

Rag & Bone Liquid Miramar Pant

Jeans? More like pajamas. Seriously—I’ve never met a comfier, chicer pant. These are the 2022 answer to looking stylish while working from home. And if you’ve headed back to the office, take heart: these are 100 percent casual Friday-approved.

Mother High-Waisted Rider Ankle Fray

When you want to add a little edge and ventilation to your denim. I love the way these hug my curves and the high-waisted fit is both super flattering and comfy. I’m tempted to call these the perfect pair of jeans.

J.Crew Wide Leg Trouser

A wide-leg trouser will take you from work to the cocktail bar. We love a super-chic twofer.

Camille-Styles-summer-wardrobe

Shorts

Parade High-Rise Bike Short

Though the biker short trend might have had its run, I love the updated version of a ribbed biker short. They bridge the gap between activewear and being a casual, on-the-go piece (perfect for looking put-together while running errands). Pair them with a crop top and add an oversized button-up to complete the look.

Mate the Label Linen Shorts

Your beach days need these shorts. I even love them for lounging around the house—definitely recommend purchasing the matching top, too. An easy, nearly all-in-one outfit.

Joe’s Jeans 7″ Lara Bermuda Shorts

As I get older, I’ve found myself experimenting with longer shorts. Styled right (with a fitted tank tucked in or a button-down layered on top), these still feel chic.

AGOLDE Parker High-Rise Denim Shorts

When it comes to denim shorts, you often have to try on a few before finding the winner. These AGOLDE ones hit the mark for a few reasons, being that they are mid-length, mid-rise, and super casual.

Sandals

Freda Salvador Robin Padded Woven Mideheel

These are my go-to sandals for summer. They’re best paired with jeans, a jumpsuit, or dresses of any length. What I’m trying to say is, that their perfection is universal.

3.1 Phillip Lim Verona Sandals

I like to keep my strappy sandals low and simple, but with a few special details thrown in.

Madewell Cady Lugsole Sandal

Chunky and comfy is the name of the game here. Though I usually steer clear of anything that makes my feet look bigger, I like how sleek and narrow these are. They get bonus points for strap security, so I don’t bust my ankle. (Important given all the running around I’m—and we all are—doing in the summer!)

Birkenstock Arizona Big Buckle Slide Sandal

This might be controversial, but I think everyone needs a pair of Birkenstocks. Maybe it’s the Cali girl in me, but nothing says effortlessly cool quite like a pair of Birks. If they feel too utilitarian for you, the brand has endless options that’ll fit your fashion girl vibes.

Stuart Weitzman Strap Sandals

Though I’ve basically sworn off all high heel sandals, there’s always a time and a place when you need some height. So, if you have to splurge on a pair that’s going to treat your feet right and that you can pull off at a summer soirée or a brunch with baggy jeans—ladies, I give you this forever classic.

There you have it! My go-to selections to build your very own summer wardrobe. I hope that some of these pieces resonated with you and help you get on your way to a more sustainable wardrobe. As always, I’m so down to hear what your favorite pieces are, so feel free to link your summery staples in the comments below!
